Providing education and awareness of the need for CPR training, medical pre-screening and on-site AED accessibility with a special emphasis on youth and high school athletic programs.
Our Progress
In its initial year of operation, the foundation made tremendous strides! To raise awareness about the importance of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) placements, presentations were made to the Boys & Girls Club, Contra Costa County Supervisors, Congressman George Miller, Pittsburg Kiwanis, Contra Costa County Soccer League, Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools, Director of the Contra Costa Public Health Department, and to the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The foundation formed partnerships with American Medical Response, Annuvia and the HeartSafe Community program. In collaboration with our partners, the foundation participated in CPR training with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for 3,000 high school freshman students.
Fundraising events included a casino bus trip and, in October of 2010, the First Annual Darius Jones Foundation 5k Walk/Run. These events allowed the foundation and its partners to provide 21 AEDs for our local schools and free CPR training to our communities. We sincerely thank all of our supporters.
In 2010, the Darius Jones Foundation proudly distributed AEDs to the following:
- Liberty Unified School District: 21 AEDs
- St. Catherine's of Siena School, Martinez: 1 AED
We have made great progress with placement of AEDs in 2011 as well:
- Riverview Middle School, Pittsburg: 1 AED
- Antioch High School: (pending placement)
- Deer Valley High School: (pending placement)
Placement of these AEDs will help save the lives of student athletes and children in Contra Costa County.
